Judy Mellor offers psychological assessment, consultation and therapy of adults (16+) presenting with a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties, using a number of therapeutic approaches.
She qualified in Clinical Psychology in 1976 and commenced her career in the NHS at Charing Cross Hospital, London, specialising in general adult psychotherapy, psychosexual and marital problems and eating disorders. She moved to the Lancaster Health Authority in 1979 and worked in Adult Mental Health, in both in-patient and community settings. In 1997 she became Head of the Clinical Psychology Service (Adult Mental Health) in Lancaster, whilst continuing her clinical work, consultancy and teaching. She took early retirement from the NHS in May 2007, and since then has been running a part-time private practice in Lancaster.
Problems seen include: anxiety, phobias, depression, stress-related problems, relationship and sexual difficulties, eating disorders, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), difficulties associated with a history of abuse, adjustment difficulties (e.g. to life changes, loss, physical problems), psychosomatic and chronic pain difficulties.
Specialist therapeutic approaches include: Psychodynamic Psychotherapy; Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT); Psychosexual and Relationship therapy; Systems-Centred Therapy (SCT); Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Rewind Technique - for trauma; and Integrative approaches, using a range of therapies where appropriate.
