Dr Colin Brown offers consultations in specialist clinical gastroenterology, with particular interests in indigestion, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome and detection or exclusion of bowel cancer. He also provides independent sector daycase telescope tests of the stomach (gastroscopy) and bowel (colonoscopy) at the BMI Lancaster Hospital, Meadowside, Lancaster. Dr Colin Brown also offers consultations for general internal medical conditions.
Dr Colin Brown graduated in medicine at Liverpool University in 1985, working initially in St. Helen's before his formative clinical and research training in gastroenterology at Hope Hospital, Salford from 1987 to 1994. His postgraduate M.D. thesis was accepted at Liverpool University before advanced clinical training at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Frenchay Hospital, Bristol from 1994 to 1996. He was elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London in 1998.
Dr Colin Brown was appointed as Consultant Physician with an interest in Gastroenterology at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Westmorland General Hospital in 1996 and has also provided local independent clinical services. Dr Colin Brown was Clinical Endoscopy Lead for Cumbria and Lancashire Strategic Health Authority from 2003 to 2007, leading the development of hiqh quality and safe "patient-focused" endoscopy services across the region. He planned two NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Centres in Lancashire and Cumbria, was accredited as an NHS Screening Colonoscopist in 2008, and is the Clinical Director of the Cumbria and Morecambe Bay NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Centre, based at Westmorland General Hospital.
Dr Colin Brown sees patients for private clinical consultations at 1 Queen Square, Lancaster, usually at the request of their General Practitioner. Any required private daycase tests such as gastroscopy or colonoscopy are provided at the BMI Lancaster Hospital.
